Ari and Jack of Brookliv were very prompt about scheduling the viewing, responding to my inquiries in the time I took to consider the apartment, and then ushering the application process through to a happy approval and lease signing. Ari took the time to understand my situation (I had a secure job that wasn't starting for several weeks) so he could explain to the landlord that my current "unemployment" wasn't a reason for concern. I highly recommend working with them.

Ari was quick to reply and to make an appointment. he was flexible and understanding of our concerns of pricing, and apartment needs. He's a pleasure to deal with, and kept his word, even through a few false starts where our original choice was lost to a higher bidder; we ended up with a slightly bigger place for the agreed upon rent.

Ari is awesome! He is very personable and quite kind. He communicates well and provides quick responses to questions. Our experience from start to finish was very quick and professional, which resulted in signing the lease within 24 hours from the initial apt viewing. We love our apt. Thanks so much!

Ari is great! We recently rented a 2 bed in Bedstuy from him and couldn't be happier with the apartment and the customer service he provided. Ari communicated well and had us approved in a matter of hours.

Ari helped us get into an apartment incredibly fast AND he made the process friendly and "human" as well. If any of you know how it is to deal with some NYC brokers, he was a refreshing change from that.

The management company he is affiliated with has also responded quickly to any questions we have as we prepare to move in.

We are looking forward to our new place!

We contacted Ari and that same day he was able to show us the apartment and we signed that night. He was fast, thorough, and great with communicating. We love the apartment and will continue to recommend him to friends who are moving.

I just signed my lease for a 2 bedroom apartment in Williamsburg that Ari showed me less than a week ago. I was in a difficult situation, my roommate backed out at the last minute, jeopardizing my ability to rent the apartment. But Ari worked with me, and, as promised, had me signing the lease today. He is trustworthy and keeps his word. He always got back to me on time, was professional and friendly. Overall, I would defiantly recommend Ari and J. Wasser & Co as a management company. They are kind and professional. Although, be advised, they do ask for a lot of paperwork.

Ari responded to my initial inquiry on the same day. However, once I let him know that my move is flexible since I'm currently on a month to month lease, communication dropped off completed. It would have been more courteous to just say, he'd prefer not to work with someone who didn't have a definitive moving date.

I can't express how awesome my experience with Ari has been. As a student from outside of New York, I was pretty nervous getting into searching for an apartment, however, right from the beginning Ari was enthusiastic, and reassuring. He made sure I had all of my paperwork in line before viewing any apartments so no one's time would be wasted. The apartments he had lined up were all within my price range and exactly what I had in mind, he was also a pleasure to spend the day with! With the horror stories I heard from friends dealing with brokers, I am beyond thankful that I found Ari. We live in the apt already for several weeks and we love the place.
Highly recommended!

I did rented an apartment from Ari at 1600 Bedford Ave. in November 2013. The management company was also apparently owned by his uncle. At first I had a good impression of him and thought he was a good guy. After having lived there for 5 months I now realize this guy is just slimy and will say whatever (including lie) to close a deal quickly. I don't say this without much thought, so heed this warning. To summarize the major issues 1) the apartment I moved into had BED BUGS that the landlord was aware of and illegally did not notify us prior to moving in 2) The unit is rent stabilized and over the past 4 years there have been illegal increases in rent 3) the neighbors and building were not as he said they were.

Ari seemed great at first because he was willing to meet late in the night and even drove me back to my place. He was friendly and it was actually fun talking to him about some of our cultural differences. But this was all fluff. The horrible quality of the apartment and illegal practices of Ari's family management company completely negate and good qualities in his friendly demeanor.

1) So the apartment had bed bugs. The entire building has had them sporadically since 2010 (according to my neighbors). So Ari’s family doesn’t really care about getting rid of them. After I moved in I spoke with the previous tenants. They told me that they last saw a bed bug 5 months ago and had gotten the apartment treated. They said that they had notified the landlord. NYC law requires that landlords notify tenants of bed bugs if there has been an incident within the past year. I was obviously never notified. They also were even considerate enough to try and exterminate when no one lived there, which would have been the easiest thing to do. The management company has done what they are required to do by sending in an exterminator, but the bugs live in the building and they refuse to exterminate the units around us. This means that we can k**l the bugs in our apartment, but eventually they crawl in from the walls. We’ve sealed things and hope this goes away, but has been a major expense. The law isn’t very strong and we’d have to file something with small claims court to get any reimbursement. I wouldn’t hold this against Ari except that this is his family, he should have known about it. It’s his job to know the product he is selling. If he doesn’t, he’s not good at his job. When this is completely screwing over new tenants, it’s going to reflect badly on you. Ari if you didn’t know, you should be pissed at your uncle for putting you in this position and renting out apartments in an illegal fashion. Yes this does make you look bad.

2) The unit is rent stabilized according the NYC Department of Housing and Community Renewal. NYC law requires that landlord notify tenants with a rent stabilized notification rider and explain the reason for rent increases by indicated the various costs of renovation that they have implemented. I was never notified and had to request my rent history from the city to find out. In the rent history, there was an illegal rent increase a couple years back. The management company says that they are new, but records show that it was simply transferred from one family member to another and original owners are still involved. This will be something that we’ll be fighting in court as our rent should be less.

3) When I moved in Ari was asked I had a dog. I don’t, so I told him that. He told me that all pets in the building have to be pre-approved so I don’t need to worry about any out of control pets. He then added (without any prodding from me) that there are only a couple SMALL dogs in the building that are quiet. I like dogs. I don’t care that there are dogs in the building. But there are MANY dogs in the building. And they bark. One is a large pit-bull. Again, I don’t mind, they don’t actually bother me, but Ari was blatantly lying. He then told me that several things would be done in the apartment before we moved in (rods put in the closet, final sweeping of floor, shelves put in kitchen cabinet, etc.) these were all small things, that were easily resolve, but they were not done. Another slight indication. He also went on about how most of the tenants in the building were like me, new to the neighborhood, young, white, etc. Again I don’t care at all. But I now am friends with neighbors and most of them have been in the building for 15+ years. Old time crown heights people. I like them. But of the 16 units in my building, only 4 or possibly 5 of them are new tenants to my knowledge. This is again a lie that wasn’t even necessary. It’s just evidence to me that he’s willing to lie to sell the place. While this wasn’t the worst thing in the world, would I say he’s an honest and trustworthy person, not at all. He will lie to you to sell the place. If it weren’t for the other above 2 points, he’d only get a couple star taken off for this.

In addition to all of this the apartment itself has some of the worst craftsmanship I’ve ever seen. The newly renovated kitchen has cabinet doors are literally falling off. There is hair underneath the crappy layer of polyurethane on the floor. Nothing is level. They literally spray painted over tile in the bathroom to cover the mold under the grout. My bathroom often leaks into the apartment below me. Its the typical slumlord patchwork repair job. I wouldn’t trust these people, I regret that I ever did. Learn from my mistake, you can find better.
