Rents for the Surf Vets Place housing lottery start at $759 for 1-bedrooms and go up to $1,289 for 3-bedrooms, varying with income and household size. If interested, renters should apply through NYC Housing Connect before the deadline of March 13, 2019.
How to Apply for the Surf Vets Place Housing Lottery
To apply, you must meet the household income requirements. These are set at 50 to 60 percent of the area median income (AMI) or, between $27,395 and $72,600 annually.
Other factors also may influence the selection process. Applicants with disabilities impacting their audio, visual or mobile facilities receive special preference. In addition, residents of Brooklyn Community Board 13 and municipal employees receive preference.

About the Surf Vets Place Housing Lottery
Surf Vets Place is located at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue and is within walking distance to the Coney Island’s beach, boardwalk and Luna Park. The building is also a short walk to the D, F, N, and Q trains at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station. Designed by Stephen B. Jacobs Group, the nine-story, mixed-used development will have 135 units total, with 82 studio apartments set aside to support homeless veterans. Amenities include a full-time doorman, gym, outdoor terrace and resident lounges. In addition to residential space, the building will feature 7,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level.

You can apply online here. If you qualify, you will have an interview to review and confirm your eligibility. Interviews typically occur anywhere between two and 10 months after the application deadline. Be sure to go to the interview prepared. Bring documents that verify your household size, the identities of those in your household, and your household income.
