A new housing lottery has opened in the Belmont section of the Bronx, offering a whopping 218 units to low-income renters. Rents start at $865 for studios and go up to $1,289 for 3-bedrooms, varying with family size and income. The new complex encompasses 4511 Third Ave., 4439 Third Ave., and 2256 Bathgate Ave. Interested renters should apply through NYC Housing Connect before the deadline of July 10, 2018.

Who Should Apply for 4511 Third Ave. Affordable Housing?

To apply for one of the 218 available units, you must meet the household income requirements, which are set at 60 percent of the area median income (AMI), or between $32,543 and $72,600 annually, depending on family size.

There are other criteria that may impact the selection process. Current municipal employees and applicants with disabilities impacting their audio, visual or mobile facilities receive special preference. Current residents of Bronx Community Board 6 also receive special preference.

Dubbed Cooper Gardens, this new development is set on the campus of St. Barnabas hospital. Designed by L+M Development Partners, the complex will feature a pharmacy, cafe, and daycare on the ground floor, plus a rooftop farm.

Interviews typically occur anywhere between two and 10 months after the application deadline. Be sure to go to the interview prepared. Bring documents that verify your household size, the identities of those in your household, and your household income.
