358 Lofts are housed within the walls of the gut renovated historic landmark building at 184 Kent, which was once owned by Austin Nichols & Co, producer of Wild Turkey Bourbon. In the 1990s artists, creatives, and newcomers, who were pioneers in the industrial neighborhood, occupied the abandoned building. The near 100-year-old building was redesigned by the well-known architect Cass Gilbert, who handled the Woolworth Building (and other historic structures) in downtown Manhattan, in 2009. The majority of loft rentals still show original brick, piping, concrete beams, and beveled concrete ceilings. New elements, chosen by SLADE Architecture, include medium tone teak wood flooring, modern bathrooms, natural stone countertops with stainless appliances in kitchens, and of course laundry in each unit. Amenities at 184 Kent are truly impressive, including a massive 2 level fitness center that can match any gym (facing the east river), beautifully manicured furnished roof-deck with Gas Grill, 24hr doorman & concierge, childrens reading/play room, library, game center with ping pong & pool tables, valet garage parking, among more.
