More about Silver Lake

Silver Lake Park is the primary feature of this area. Offering a gorgeous green space and trails, the park also features a public 18-hole golf course, dog run, tennis courts, and more. The promenade around the lake itself is a favorite spot for local walkers and runners, while kids can check out the area playgrounds. In the summer, there are a variety of free activities, with the evening concerts being a local attraction for people of all ages.

The small area of Silver Lake does not lend too much in the way of shopping; however, nearby communities of Tompkinsville and Stapleton offer a variety of shopping opportunities. The Staten Island Mall is about a 15 minute drive away or accessible by the S61 bus via Victory Blvd.

There is no shortage of public transportation available through Silver Lake; the X30 express bus travels between Sunnyside and West Midtown for commuters, while other buses can take travelers to the St. George Ferry Terminal to access the Staten Island Ferry, as well as Port Richmond and the Staten Island Mall.

Drivers commuting into Manhattan can access the Bayonne Bridge just west of Silver Lake and connect to the New Jersey Turnpike to the Holland Tunnel, or take the Staten Island Expressway to the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel or Brooklyn/Manhattan Bridges.

Apartment rentals in desirable Silver Lake can be few and far between; so you may have to continue looking for the until one comes up that fits your size and budget requirements. One bedroom units in the area start at about $1100. However, with a few roommates or a growing family you can find affordable townhouse rentals, with four bedroom unit costing around $2200 per month.
