Fleetwood Concourse Village Apartments
Bronx

Concourse Village is a family-oriented housing community located in South Bronx.

It encompasses a sixteen-block stretch from East 149th Street to East 165th street and is bordered by Park Avenue to its east and the Grand Concourse to its west. Established in the early 20th century, Concourse Village was a by-product of the widely celebrated Grand Concourse which opened in 1909. Intended to bring a sense of monumental beauty to the area, the Grand Concourse also spurred a huge development boom in the area. The extension of subway lines to the Grand Concourse a few years later signaled the influx of thousands of Manhattan-based residents eager to escape the crowded confines of the city.

More about Fleetwood - Concourse Village

Today, Concourse Village is well known for its rich architectural blend of Pre-war and Art Deco styles. Predominantly comprised of low to mid-rise residential buildings, this enclave also includes several detached houses. As part of the Grand Concourse Historic District, a number of Concourse Village’s buildings have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Over the past century, little has changed about Concourse Village. It still serves an as affordable place of residence for middle-income families who want to be close to the city. Though there aren’t too many attractions located within the actual perimeters of Concourse Village, residents are just a stone’s throw away from a range of great museums, restaurants and parks.

A few blocks north of Concourse Village is the Bronx Museum of the Arts which houses a diverse selection of pieces from Africa and South America. On the southern border of the Village you’ll find the Pregones Theatre which regularly puts on Latino musicals and plays. Not far from here is the Hostos Centre for Arts and Culture which, in addition to its art gallery, also hosts many multicultural-themed events in its concert hall.

Arguably the most renowned attraction is the Yankee Stadium, located just a few blocks to the east of Concourse Village. Baseball fans will also want to check out the Yankee Tavern which has been a mainstay in the area since 1923 when the stadium itself was opened. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Yogi Berra all reportedly wined and dined at this family-run institution. Even if you’re not in the mood for a bite to eat, be sure to stop by and check out the Tavern’s wide range of Yankee paraphernalia.
