Knotting Slope ((242 7th Av @5th st), a boutique persian rug shop in Park Slope, is closing their doors, victim of rising rents and a sinking economy. The owners have only a few weeks to liquidate their entire inventory before they return to Turkey. Everything is 30% – 70% off.
The stock includes handmade Kilims and pile rugs in a wide variety of sizes, some made especially for the store (one of the owners was born in Turkey to a family of rug-makers). At last glance, they still had sizes ranging from room-sized 11-footers down to small 2′ x 1′ area rugs. Everything is handmade, and some of the rugs are antiques – over 50 years old.
As much as I hate to see small businesses go under, it can’t be denied that this is a great chance for folks of modest means to feel like royalty. Rugs that would require a bank loan at ABC Carpet are going for the price of a used laptop. They’ll last a lot longer, and you’ll never be tempted to throw them against the wall.
Wow! I am coming to buy a Persian carpet. It’s a great pity the business is sinking, but I’ll surely use my opportunity to acquire an antique Persian handmade rug.
Loved your latest post, by the way.
