Upper East Side

Every time I walk the streets of Upper East Side I get the urge to sing Beyonce’s song “All the single Ladies.”

And why is that? Well, my personal conclusion is this: Being a woman in NYC is very expensive and thanks to a large selection of rent stabilized and rent controlled apartments on the Upper East Side, stretching from Third Avenue eastward,  the beautiful half can save quite a bit of money to be spent later on whatever they desire (including but not limited to on spas, vacation,  fashion,  prime fitness clubs, etc)

I also think that perhaps another reason why they like to live in this community is because they may feel safer near each other. This is especially obvious during the spring and summer. Like flowers blooming in the park and streets, these ladies come out looking absolutely beautiful.

There is more to this neighborhood than beautiful people though. If you are a health conscious person, then the UES would be a great match for you since there are plenty of fitness centers, yoga centers, wellness centers, and organic health food stores (like Candle cafe and Le Pain Quotidien). Equinox fitness club recently opened its newest location on 2nd Avenue and 74th street for neighborhood’s heath conscious customers.

Because of these health conscious inhabitants, the UES is definitely not the best location for a prime steak.  Sorry guys, but the majority of this neighborhood  prefers lighter options for dinner. Anything to do with seafood, Mediterranean cuisine, vegetarian cuisine, organic salads will definitely work.

Dessert is the only exception to the health rule. You can find the finest selection of hand made desserts in UES. For example Lady M is a spectacular place for an afternoon tea and treat. It is famous for using the best selection of ingredients for their cakes. You can also satisfy your sweet tooth by visiting some of the finest chocolate stores: La Maison du Chocolat, Martine’s Chocolates,  and Mariebelle.

Aside from food, there are landmarks and cultural institutions on the Upper East Side that cater to any audience.  5th Avenue near Central Park has become known as Museum Mile because of concentration of museums and galleries.

Though the Upper East Side is considered one of the most expensive neighborhood to live in,  there are some rentals that are very affordable thanks to rent controlled apartment buildings in the area. I truly believe that the Upper East Side is a neighborhood for anybody because it can satisfy the demands of even the most discriminating customer.

Happy home hunting everyone!
