In August, one of my best girlfriends was in town from Los Angeles. (I’ve known her since 7th grade!) She was here for work and, lucky for me, had an extra ticket for the musical, Wicked. It was one of those evenings that turned into a fun and funny night. We had dinner at Asia de Cuba, and while the food and ambiance were stellar, the memorable treat was the homemade doughnuts and caramel sauce. After dinner, we raced to the theater and our ten-rows-from-the-front seats.
I loved Wicked—loved, loved, loved it. Essentially, it’s a story about friendship, so it was appropriate that I see the show with one of my nearest and dearest. And lately my three-year-old niece is obsessed with the Wizard of Oz, specifically the Wicked Witch of the West, so it was interesting to see this character portrayed in a new way. During intermission, another surprise: Oprah was sitting two rows behind us. Yes, as in Winfrey.
Anyway, did I mention that I love Wicked? Which is why I am very excited about Melcher Media’s new title, Wicked The Musical: A Pop-up Compendium of Splendiferous Delight and Thrillifying Intrigue. Did you note in the title that this is a pop-up book? It’s a gorgeous treasure that translates the stage performance into book form. Pop-ups aren’t just for kids. This is a title for anyone, any age, that loves the show.
To celebrate the launch of this bound wonderland, this Friday, October 30th at 5:00 pm there will be a live performance by members from the Broadway company of Wicked at Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Triangle, 1972 Broadway at 66th Street, New York.
