While in Greece this past summer, I drank coffee…a lot. In fact, their national drink is a frappe, which is iced coffee, sugar, and milk topped with a lot of caffeine froth. Oh, and don’t forget the straw. It’s delicious, it’s fantastic, it’s what you drink several times a day when in Greece. In fact, my daily schedule went like this: wake up, frappe, morning swim, lay on the beach, frappe, light lunch, nap, frappe…you get the picture. The funny thing is that frappe is really just instant coffee buzzed to frothy perfection with a little hand blender. So simple, who knew? But the other coffee delight that I indulged in while there, and a significant step up in quality from the frappe, was espresso made from a Nespresso machine. Luckily, most of the Greek summer homes we stayed in came equipped with these happy little coffee wonders. How it works is that the coffee comes in a little capsule that you plop into the machine, and in a few seconds you have a perfect cup of espresso. It’s simple and fast, and I think this might be my next appliance purchase. Nespresso is all over Europe and their ads, featuring George Clooney, can be seen everywhere. Luckily, Nespresso is creeping into the U.S. and even lucky for you and I, their boutiques are in New York!
