Getting Labeled

August 27th, 2009 by Melissa Bateson

I have been loving the new styles of labels these days!  These spoons are from an Etsy.com seller named ‘monkeysalwayslook’.  Can you believe these beauties range from $5-$8 each!

It’s a special way to identify plant material or name the small patch of plants you are growing out back.  Knowing what you are growing will not only enhance your own experience gardening but will benefit those who ask, “What is that?”.

A cute London based company sells these pine plant labels in packs of 10 for about $10 US Dollars.  They definitely add another bit of color and fun to the garden!

Having a label can also be a reminder to yourself for outdoor plants that die back certain times of the year.  I hate it when I’m fussing around in the soil and hit a dormant plant just under the surface, disrupting it’s flow. This has happened with ferns and hostas way too often in early spring- no more I say!

Littlegreenfingers.typepad.com is a favorite garden blogger of mine who, with her children, cleverly used oversized wooden spoons!  The DIY method is much appreciated.

Get creative or support the artists who make them for you!

Happy Gardening!

  • Thanks for the mention - much appreciated!

I’m actually rather loving the ones on Etsy but as I’m currently getting my wooden spoons for 23p (what’s that these days? - must be about 2 cents since the pound keep nosediving - oh no, 37 cents, my mistake) I’m not sure my purse will stand the price hike.
