Last week, you learned how just a few seasoning can take you a long way. This week, I’m giving you a short list of food basics that you should also always have. With these staples, you can make quick and easy dinners when you’ve got nothing in the fridge. These are also great foundations for more elaborate meals or side dishes. -Beans (chick peas, black beans, pinto beans, etc.)
-Broth (vegetable and chicken)
-Nuts
-Pasta
-Couscous
-Potatoes
-Onions
-Rice
-Canned tomatoes
-Canned tuna
-Frozen vegetables (peas, broccoli, etc.)
-Mustard
-Mayo
-Eggs
Here are some recipe ideas from just your staples. Don’t forget to use your simple flavors of love to season everything to taste.
-Great mediterraean side: cooked couscous, sautéed onion and garlic, chopped dried apricots and almonds
-Tuna casserole: cooked pasta, canned tuna, mayo, mustard, cooked peas
-Potato salad: cooked potato, chopped fresh onion, mayo
-Mexican rice and beans: chopped onion and chopped canned tomatoes cooked with rice and chicken broth; serve with black or pinto beans and garlic cooked in chicken broth
-Spaghetti: canned tomato cooked with garlic on top of pasta
-Fried rice: cooked rice sautéed with onion, peas and egg
-Vegetable soup: potatoes, frozen vegetables, canned tomatoes and pasta cooked in vegetable broth.
