Gramercy Park

Quiet Good transportation Young crowd

Few neighborhoods are as lovely as Gramercy, arguably the most charming area of New York City.

Situated between Murray Hill and the East Village, Gramercy has a relaxed, old-money type of feel. It’s no wonder, as in pre-civil war New York the brownstones and mansions facing the park were the poshest places to live in the city. Former New York governors and presidential candidates have lived in Gramercy, as did young Theodore Roosevelt.

East 18th Street is on the same block as Pete's Tavern where O'Henry wrote "The Gift of the Magi" in his favorite booth by the front door. Pete's Tavern has been open since 1864 and in my opinion, has some of the best burgers in the city. The full time doorman building has studios, one-bedrooms, and a handful of two-bedroom units. Many of the one-beds that face West above the 7th floor have great views of the Empire State Building. It is by far one of the best values I have found located that close to Irving Place and Gramercy Park.
