Michelle was an absolute pleasure to work with-- extremely personable, down to earth and understanding. She is very hard working, not at all pushy, and was super accommodating to my busy and often fluctuating schedule. Contact Michelle, if it's out there she will find it!

Michelle worked with me; she was terrific.

I really can't say enough about the work she put into the search and her level of professionalism and knowledge. Setting aside that she's incredibly personable (not a bad thing when you're stuck with someone for hours), I've seen my friends work with a number of agents, and she's one of the (very) few who never seems as if she's just working to push you into something she happened to have seen that morning-she legitimately is looking to find the apartment that is perfect for what you want.

She's also candid (without being condescending) about what is and isn't possible at a particular price point, which is an incredibly valuable thing to have.

Bottom line is that if you need to find an apartment, I very strongly recommend you contact Michelle, you really can't go wrong, if it's out there, she'll find it!

I just wanted to express how happy I was with Michelle's services and the apartment she provided for us. Michelle not only showed it to me earlier than planned, but also went the extra step afterwards to come again and show the place to me & my mother. Beyond any doubt Michelle was the nicest and most helpful agent I've ever dealt with. I have shared her name and email address (mshields@citihabitats.com.) with several of my friends who have been looking around New York City because they spent so much time telling me how unhelpful every agent has been they've worked with. I explained that if they wanted someone who not only was friendly but also helpful, they should not hesitate to call Michelle.

I appreciate all the help she provided and if I ever move again, I will be searching her out first.

Moving to NYC from California was no easy task. Navigating the city and trying to figure out where to live could have been a nightmare. And then I was introduced to Michelle and she immediately went to work for me and my family. She asked all the right questions. Her easy going personality put us at ease right away.

On a Saturday morning a few weeks ago we were all set to look at apartments in a certain neighborhood that we asked Michelle to target for us. At the last minute I called Michelle and told her that we changed our mind and that we wanted to look in another neighborhood. NO PROBLEM. Michelle went to work looking for suitable places in the new neighborhood. And the first place we looked at was it!!! The place we were looking for. And Michelle found it for us!!!

You can try to "go it alone" finding a place to live in NYC. Good luck. Better yet, call Michelle Hynes at Citi Habitats. She will treat you with kindness and respect. And you will have a friend in the city long after the lease is signed. Thanks Michelle, your an angel! :)

We were referred to Michele through a bunch of friends. When we got to her, she was already more professional than most other agents we had worked with. We looked at a few places before we saw the right one and we decided to take it right away. Michele drove us to the apartment. Took us through it, took us through the application process and the process of providing all the necessary documents with ease. There was a small mix-up with how payment needed to be made but it was solved just with a trip to the bank. Even after we had signed and handed over payment, she took us to the place to get the proper measurements of all the rooms.

I would definitely recommend Michele Shields to anyone looking to rent in NYC.

After a very long search, my husband and I found a gorgeous apartment through Michelle. We had seen plenty of places with plenty of other agents, and Michelle was the one who came through for us. If you're looking in Manhattan, she's got the best listings (she also takes great pictures of the places- not one of those agents that takes a crappy shot of a corner of a room). She's also super honest and caring and made the process fast and painless. I can't recommend her enough!!

I just signed my lease today (yay!) and had a great experience with my broker Michelle Shields Hynes. Apartment hunting in NYC is generally a nail-biting-jading-anxiety-inducing-full-contact sport, and I could barely believe that within an hour of meeting Michelle I had fallen in love with a place on the UES and was applying. Over the previous two days I'd seen eight other places through another broker, and nothing came close to the 1st place that Michelle showed me. Even then, she still took the time to show me other apartments in the area (that I liked even more) even though I'd have applied for the first one I saw.
She took time to get to know what I wanted, and didn't waste my time showing me apartments that weren't exactly what I was looking for. Then, she walked me through the entire process, and even hand delivered my application to ensure I'd have the first spot amongst other applicants. Michelle was also present at today's signing and she responded really helpfully to my (at times) neurotic emails all week long because I was so worried and excited about this.
Michelle was incredibly fast, professional and friendly and made what can be a really scary process soooooooo much easier. Thank you, Michelle!

If you are looking for an apartment in NYC, you need to get in touch with Michelle Shields at City habitats. She knows the market inside and out and is able to get you into great apartments at a moment's notice because of the relationships that she's developed with landlords and management companies all over the city. Halfway through our search, we had a change of heart in what we were looking for and Michelle was able to change gears and line up 8-10 apartments early the next day.I've heard alot of brokers only show open listings, ensuring they get the full fee, not with Michelle, she showed us a lot of co-brokes, which means her fee is split with another agency. Contact her, she really does care!

Michelle requested a review about our experience with working with her!
Well here you go...Hands down the best broker I have ever dealt with in New York.

Some friends of mine recommended Michelle Shields when my husband and I began our apartment hunt. We had a few strict criteria (location, price, the usual) and Michelle abided to them completely, only showing us places that fit the bill. She was very communicative and efficient--but NOT pushy. Other brokers I contacted (and whom I have dealt with for past rentals) have been pushy, overdramatic, "you must put in your application right this second or you'll lose this place!", etc--typical for the NYC market. But Michelle is extremely laid-back and didn't apply any pressure to make a hasty decision.

She was patient in dealing with delays on our end (getting out of a current lease) and extraordinarily helpful in negotiating the rent with building management. When she showed us the perfect place that was just out of our price range, we asked if it was possible to put in a slightly lower offer, and she helped make it happen.

I had contacted other brokers to see what kind of places they had in our price- and location-range, and not a single one had anything as nice as the apartments Michelle showed us. She has relationships with building owners and managers that younger, newer agents don't. That helped with the efficiency and price negotiation, and really put my mind at ease.

She is courteous, professional, efficient and genuine: like other reviewers, I felt no sense of unease at any point and felt I could really trust her to look out for my interests. Worth every penny of the broker's fee as far as I'm concerned!

Michelle was initially very responsive and professional. She and I made plans to meet in the UES to look at some apartments on a Wednesday afternoon. She said she would call me the evening before to finalize a time and place, which she never did. I emailed her on Wednesday morning, to which she responded, "I will need to reschedule, I'm out sick. Sorry for the inconvenience." And I never heard back from her. I never followed up with her because (1) I found another broker and (2) I didn't want to risk having to deal with this type of behavior again.

(If you are interested in renting any Citi Habitats apartments, I strongly recommend Scott Waldman - swaldman@citihabitats.com. I found him because two of my friends rented apartments from him and strongly recommended him. He was professional, friendly, and very responsive.)
