An Australia transplant who's called New York home for over 20 years, Matthew knows how daunting apartment searches in this city can be. He also knows how satisfying it is to work with clients finding great apartments that they're excited about. Believe it or not, it happens all the time and he'd be happy to help you find the same.

So trustworthy and helpful! Walked us around Harlem and showed us many different options. We had just moved to the city, and we would have been totally lost without him! Can't recommend him more highly!

I rented an apartment from this agent.

Matt is awesome! We flaked out once and had countless emails with him. The whole time Matthew was calm and very, very knowledgable. When a financial surprise hit us in the middle of our apartment search, he was able to re-strategize and most importantly he didn't give up on us. He never pressured us! You don't know what a breath of fresh air it is to work with a broker who truly just wants you to find your next home. In the end, we were able to "inherit" a place from a friend. But had that not happened we would've definitely rented from him and I write this review to let the world know that. Thank you, Matt!

I did not rent an apartment from this agent.

Matthew showed us several apartments in neighborhoods we were exploring. We gave him very strict requirements and he was very responsive, only showing us places he knew we would be interested in. Ultimately we decided to rent in a neighborhood outside Matthew's territory but he was extremely helpful during the search process and I would highly recommend him as a broker.

I reviewed Matt on Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/bohemia-realty-group-new-york#hrid:w6j3i3t44ruwqV5cBr1ddw

I took the time to write a long review because we were really happy with our broker Matt Murumba. He's awesome. Give that dude a call or shoot him an e-mail.

Now for my review:

First and foremost, I'd like to comment on the negative reviews posted here. Your experience with a realty company will almost entirely be based on the broker you deal with. Finding a good broker is the most important part. While we were really lucky with our broker, we were prepared to test him and make sure he wasn't going to screw us over. This is a general piece of advice you should consider: 1) make sure your broker will do their job and 2) don't be afraid to make them earn their (city-wide standard) 15% fee. I mean, don't be an a*****e, but your broker shouldn't be rushing you through the process.

My girlfriend and I found a listing through Bohemia Realty through Craigslist in mid-June and closed our deal in late-June. We were looking for a place near City College (where I am a doctoral student) in a price range of $1400-$2000 a month (obviously in the price range of a poor graduate student). While I feel like we were lucky to find a place on Craigslist fairly quickly, our broker Matt Murumba, the Meritorious (yes, I gave our broker a title, which, is not lawfully official) did the appropriate research in the surrounding area to ensure that 1) there weren't better places in our area for our budget 2) the landlord with that listing (which was semi-open, as opposed to closed, which means Bohemia Realty would work exclusively with that landlord) was legitimate enough to work with, and 3) was a good spot for us to commute (i.e. being close to a good subway).

My 5-star rating of Bohemia Realty is based almost entirely our experience with our broker, Matt Murumba. Matt was great through out the entire process, which started with a phone call just a few minutes after I e-mailed him about a listing. Because I wasn't too familiar with the process (this was our first apartment we got ourselves without the help of a school or something like that), Matt made sure to explain everything and was very open about the process, quickly earning my trust.

I really appreciated the phone call, which in my opinion should be standard anyway, but I immediately felt like Matt was interested in me as someone looking for a place to live and not just another client. Further, Matt has a super fun personality with a great sense of humor. I'd like to think that my girlfriend and I are also funny people, but Matt quickly honed in on our sense of humor, and realizing we were laid back people, also presented himself in a laid back--but still professional--manner. Our first impression of Matt was quickly very impressed.

Matt found us a few places that were right by the A/C, B/D, and within walking distance of City College. He also took into account the usual things, like being close enough to a decent supermarket and a laundromat. We were pretty happy with the places he showed us and didn't dabble with the apartment-game, so we quickly put in an application for one of the first places we saw (for better or for worse).

Our issues with finding a place and signing the lease came only from the owners of the building, who made us jump through hoops during the application and lease signing process. This was of course expected, but Matt helped us through all of these issues and was instrumental in successfully being approved for our first choice apartment. His experience and guidance was really appreciated during this frustrating period. For instance, due to a last minute decision to change the lease signing time to the next day, Matt gave us a call as soon as he new. Because he couldn't reach me by phone (he left a message), he assumed we were already on our way on the subway. As a result, he immediately left his office to meet us at the property office building. Other brokers might not go to these lengths to keep us happy (like not meeting us and saying, "whoops, not my fault, I'll meet you tomorrow; sorry you wasted part of your day"), but Matt did. As an apology, he even treated us to coffee. What a class act!

Matt really believes in treating his clients like people and like friends. It was evident that Matt wanted us to be happy and went through great strides to make sure that we were happy with the place we ended up. Matt was confident, knowledgable, and gave great advice. In a stressful time like finding a new place to live, having such a confident broker who gave definitive opinions (as opposed to wishy-washy advice) was super, super helpful.

TL, DR: My girlfriend and I *highly* recommend Matt Murumba as a broker. We couldn't be happier with his professionalism and general badassness. Class act.

I rented an apartment from this agent.

Matthew was really great! No hard sell just super helpful and really upfront about everything. My plans changed so I didn't end up renting from him but he's one of the good ones for sure.

I did not rent an apartment from this agent.
