I think Naked said it best, "New York City apartments are notoriously expensive, rented unbelievably fast, and although most renters would love to find a no-fee apartment, the reality is that most require a broker’s fee. If you feel intimidated, or flat-out hopeless, you’re not alone. Renting in the city can easily become a source of intense anxiety."

When we initially met to discuss a few apartments I inquired about he was helpful, but then while I was already at the location we were supposed to meet to view a the apartment he told me he wasn't going to make it. (Stood me up for the viewing) He said he would call to reschedule. He then ignored my calls for several weeks afterwards and was impossible to get in touch with after that. Very rude.

I did not rent an apartment from this agent.

John B. McGriskin Responded:
Alexandra,

I appreciate the initial good words.

I just personally called and spoke directly to you to apologize. If you remember correctly, this was 4 1/2 months ago, due to a last minute cancelation by management we we're not able to view that apartment. As the middle man, I relayed the news and sincerely apologized.

It was a pleasure meeting you and I'm happy your apartment search was successful!

First and foremost you have to understand the market in NYC is nothing like any other place you have ever been. There is a review on this website that can easily teach you everything you need to know in about 30 min.

With that being said getting an apartment in NYC is very very difficult and you will more than likely not get the apartment you want but something very close. John is great about cutting away bull to present you with real options. Once you find an apartment he will fight for you to make sure there is no trouble with the buildings management company. Due to a very low amount of communication in NYC between management companies and brokers you will often be presented with information that will surprise both you and your broker but John is great about navigating this treacherous situations and making sure you as the renter come out on top and not the management company.

Great guy as well on the long awkward trips to apartments very fun to talk to and courteous

Trust me after going through several B.S. brokers in this city John is definitely the real deal and he will get you what your looking for as long as you are willing to work with him.

A real straight shooter HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I rented an apartment from this agent.

I have communicated with John concerning my daughters recent apartment search. I spoke with him directly as well and emailed. I have emails in which John totally misled us concerning the improvement which were to be made to the apt. I have a number of emails in which John clarifies my concerns. Unfortunately what he said was totally untrue. He states appliances were to be changed. There is a new stove, but not refrig. It's obvious the only thing he cared about was his commission! I guess that is just the way things are in todays world. Be very very careful when dealing with this individual.

I rented an apartment from this agent.

John was great to work with. He took a stressful roommate situation and helped us find the perfect apartment to suit our needs. Highly recommended!
